FAQ
What happens in a first session?
Mostly, we talk. I'll ask about what's bringing you in, what you've tried, and what you're hoping for — and you can ask me anything about how I work. There's no pressure to share more than feels right. The first few sessions are about building enough safety for the real work to begin.
Do you take insurance?
Insurance and billing are handled through Placer Marriage Family Therapy, Professional Corporation — reach out and I'll walk you through current options, including superbills for out-of-network reimbursement if applicable.
Do you see clients online?
Yes. I'm tele-mental health certified and see clients via secure video anywhere in California. Many parents of young children find telehealth is the only way therapy actually happens — nap-time sessions are a real thing here.
What is somatic therapy, actually?
It means we include your body in the work — noticing sensation, breath, tension, and impulse as information, and using body-based practices to help your nervous system complete what it couldn't at the time. It's grounded in current neuroscience, and it's gentler than it sounds.
How long does therapy take?
It depends on what we're working with. Some focused work (like EMDR for a specific experience) can move in months; deeper pattern work takes longer. We'll check in regularly about how it's going — you're never signing up for forever.
What are you like in session?
Warm, direct, and more playful than you might expect — humor has a permanent seat in my office. I won't pretend to be a blank slate: I'm a real person in the room with you, and I'll tell you the truth kindly.
Are you a licensed therapist?
I'm a Registered Associate Marriage & Family Therapist (AMFT #144704), which means I'm in the supervised phase of licensure that every California therapist completes. I'm supervised by Megan Paterson, LMFT #53371, and employed by Placer Marriage Family Therapy, Professional Corporation.
